TAI CHI APPLICATION STANDARDS

 

  1. DO NOT USE MUSCULAR STRENGTH.
  2. USE YOUR BREATH
  3. STAY IN ALIGNMENT.

  1. Grasp the Sparrow’s Tail./Ward off left and right. In bow and arrow stance.
    1. Analysis: Intercept punch—immediately grab arm moving left—deflect with the leg to close groin and/or prevent kick.
    2. Control wrists to break the root with the front leg
    3. Proceed downing the opponent and immobilize him/her.
    4. Ward off=arc your arms and use them to push or bounce something away
    5. It is called peng or peng kai=to push open or push away. Example as in a crowd and you bounce people out of your way and you do it by rotating the body.
    6. Intercept and deflect.

  2. Rollback and Push

    1. Lu Kai=pull open
    2. Lu dao=pull down
    3. Xiao lu=small rollback=downing the enemy/in the solar plexus
    4. Push=An=hand and peace or press or push down.
    5. It can be offense or defense/O=push or bounce; D=directed downward.
    6. Offense=push/directed as a bounce; Defense is directed downward
    7. Cavity strikes is to uproot the opponent

  3. Single Whip

A. Dan Bian=single or alone. It is used for deflecting.

In Tai Chi; it is used to lead the opponent’s hand or weapon past your body. Analysis-The rotation to the left is to deflect an attack to the side and lead the opponent or hand to the rear.

    1. Follow-up is to attack with your right hand and immediately use your left to continue the deflection follow-up with a kick.
    2. APPLICATION: Downing the enemy; control, and cavity strike.
    3. Lift hands and lean and/or step forward= Ti Shan Shang Shi/raise hands;up; posture. Raise up, pull up or pick up.

NOTE; Any leaning will make you loose your balance and center.

APPLICATION: To Lifting Hands is same as above Downing/Deflect, control and cavity strike

  1. The Crane Spreads it’s Wings=Bai He Liang Chi

When a crane fights, it usually blocks with its’ wings and attacks with both the beak and the wings. The wings shake and jerk and although not muscular or strong , when it strikes it can break branches and kill or injure its’ enemy. It is dependent on strong ROOTS.

ANALYSIS: Hands protect the chest (use wings) hands and arms.

  1. Downing is done by deflecting and grasping the wrist with the left hand and pull down
  2. Attack eyes with the other hand. Use the right at the same time with the thigh against the opponent’s front leg to pull the front root up. The control and cavity strike remain s the same.

  3. Brush Knee and Step Forward=Lou Xi Yao Bu =To embrace your knee or step forward with a twisting motion.

APPLICATION:

a. Down the enemy-deflect chest with a punch or use elbow to seal it and with the left hand is to prevent attack.

  1. Twist to the right to lead the power past yourself.
  2. Step your left leg behind his right leg while you
  3. Push your left hand down in order to immobilize his right hand.
  4. (immediately use the right hand to push his chest forward and downward
  5. Left thigh bounces against his right leg to uproot the front leg and neutralize the punch.

  1. Seal Tightly =Fu Feng-Si Bi=Seal up a blockade as if movement of the left hand is to the outside of your right elbow.
  2. Embrace Tiger and Return to the Mountain=Bao Hu Gui Shan
